# Jaarlijkse plechtigheid Poolse gesneuvelden

Vandaag werden de 257 Poolse soldaten die in Lommel hun laatste rustplaats kregen, voor hun heldenmoed geëerd. Het is deze maand immers **80 jaar geleden** dat de troepen van generaal Maczek, als commandant van de eerste Poolse pantserdivisie, samen met de geallieerde strijdkrachten een einde maakten aan de terreur van de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Alles begon om 12 uur met een eucharistieviering in de Sint-Pietersbandenkerk van Lommel-Centrum, gevolgd door een korte ceremonie aan het monument aan deze kerk. Om 14 uur was er de plechtigheid op de Poolse Militaire Begraafplaats op de Luikersteenweg, en afgesloten werd er met een receptie op het Domein De Grote Hoef.
